I don’t know about you, but we’ve sure missed going to art shows this year. That’s why we’re so excited the Whatcom Artist Studio Tour is happening! (With social distancing, of course!) When: October 3,4 & 10,11 – 10am-5pm In-person tours: Each studio decides if they will accept in-person visitors. Our studio will accept visitors.

Many small businesses are greatly affected by coronavirus, so we feel fortunate our studio can continue fairly normally. Art matters now more than ever, especially as we all look for bright spots amidst the chaos.

We are still taking new commissions during this time. If you are thinking about commissioning a sculpture over the next few months, don’t hesitate to get in touch. Here’s how we are staying safe:

What a year! A big thank you to everyone who visited us at the studio or events in 2019, cheered us on from afar, and commissioned new works of art. It was truly a great year! Here is a look back at our favorite projects from 2019.

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Bellevue Arts Museum BAM ARTSfair. It was fun to see familiar faces and many, many new faces as well. We met lots of talented artists from around the country, and two of Tomas’ sculptures (one metal sculpture and one wood sculpture) found new homes during the show. So it was a success all the way around.

The BAMarts Fair is sponsored by the Bellevue Art Museum. It is one of the most prestigious art festivals in the Seattle area, so we are thrilled Tomas will exhibit his work for the first time this year. The booth representing Tomas Vrba Studio features metal sculpture and wood sculpture by artists Tomas Vrba.

If you are in Seattle or the eastside this weekend, we hope to see you at the Woodinville Arts Alliance Studio Tour. Tomas Vrba is the newest wood and metal sculptor from the Bellingham area to exhibit as a guest artist at Monahan Studio during the tour.

When a client approaches me to create a tree stump sculpture, they sometimes know right away what form they want it to take. But more often than not, the decision is collaborative. This was the case for a recent sculpture on a private client’s property in Bellingham, WA.

The idea for this sculpture came after I visited my client’s house for a consultation. The house sits on a cliff overlooking Puget Sound, and she collects starfish and corrals from the beach below. I thought, why not bring the sound directly to her?

So what went into creating this monster of a wood sculpture?
